Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism / Diabetes Center
We primarily provide medical care for diabetes, as well as endocrine disorders involving the thyroid, pituitary gland, adrenal glands, and more. Approximately 80% of our inpatient and outpatient cases are related to diabetes (including type 1 and type 2 diabetes, cases with concurrent endocrine disorders, and diabetes due to pancreatic diseases).
Our clinical practice encompasses a broad range of care including treatment of acute metabolic disorders such as diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state, and severe hypoglycemia; management of diabetic complications; and glycemic control during infections or surgical procedures. We collaborate closely with other departments and emphasize comprehensive patient education.
With the relocation to the new hospital, we have newly established a Health Promotion and Anti-Aging Clinic within our department. This clinic addresses aging-related conditions such as frailty and sarcopenia, and explores their interrelation with diseases like diabetes. Through multidisciplinary collaboration involving nurses, dietitians, physical therapists, and other professionals, we are committed to advancing anti-aging care.
To further enhance diabetes care, we have established the Diabetes Management Committee, which includes certified diabetes educators and certified diabetes nurse specialists. This committee is dedicated to the training and development of medical staff directly involved in diabetes treatment.

Our Commitment

Whether you are living with diabetes yourself or have a family member who is affected, you are welcome to join us.
Diabetes Education Class
Regular educational sessions about diabetes
Our Diabetes Education Class focuses on providing basic, essential knowledge about diabetes through regularly scheduled sessions. Have you ever heard that "diabetes can lead to blindness" or "it can damage the kidneys"? Are these statements true? If you've been told you have diabetes, or are at risk of developing it, what should you be aware of in your daily life? What kind of diet should you follow? We answer these and many other everyday questions in a simple and easy-to-understand manner — not only for patients, but also for family members of those living with diabetes.
Anyone is welcome to join, and we sincerely hope that participating in this class will help you — and your loved ones — take a positive step toward better diabetes management and care.
Diabetes Open Class
An advanced program to support long-term diabetes management Our Diabetes Open Class offers an in-depth, practical approach to living with diabetes. Held monthly, each session focuses on a specific theme related to the disease or its treatment, with clear and accessible explanations provided.
Diabetes is a lifelong condition — but with proper treatment and good blood sugar control, you can live a healthy, active life just like anyone else.
This class is a place where people living with diabetes can come together to learn accurate information and encourage one another. It’s more than just a lecture — it’s a community of support and shared learning.
The key to managing diabetes is self-care. This means taking charge of your lifestyle — particularly your diet and physical activity. In our Open Class, we encourage you to set your own goals for diabetes self-management and support you in working toward them with confidence and determination.
Diabetes Self-Management Manual
Now available for purchase – a comprehensive guide compiled by our hospital We are pleased to announce the release of our original “Diabetes Self-Management Manual,” which provides clear explanations on the basics of diabetes and practical self-care strategies.
November 14th is recognized as World Diabetes Day in every year, a global initiative led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and its member associations to raise awareness about the prevention, treatment, and management of diabetes. In Japan as well, various awareness events and blue light-up campaigns are held nationwide.
It is reported that in Japan, one in three people over the age of 40 is either living with diabetes or at risk of developing it. This highlights the importance of proactive management and prevention of diabetes and its complications.
At our hospital, under the leadership of Dr. Takami from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, we have long been committed to diabetes care. As part of our ongoing efforts, our Diabetes Management Committee has compiled this manual to support patients in understanding their condition and managing it effectively.
The manual is available for purchase at a cost of ¥1,000 (tax included). For more information or to purchase a copy, please contact the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism.
